Xiaomi’s ‘Desh ka smartphone’ to launch today
After creating a lot of buzz on social media, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch a budget smartphone in India today at 12pm. The company has been teasing the upcoming device on social media as “Desh ka smartphone” since about a month and hinting several key highlights of the device all this time.
Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain posted on Twitter that the upcoming handset is going to “change the lives of millions of Mi Fans. Brace yourself for the BIGGEST surprise in the Indian smartphone industry!” The launch of the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone was first confirmed by Jain on Twitter earlier this month.
The several hinted highlights of the soon to be launched device include ‘effortless’ multi-tasking, ‘enough storage space’, a massive battery and multi-language support. One thing confirmed by the company is that the device is going to be a Flipkart exclusive. The e-commerce website has put a teaser page of the device, confirming that Xiaomi will sell its ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ exclusively on Flipkart.

According to the rumour mill, the upcoming smartphone is expected to be Xiaomi Redmi 5A smartphone, which is already available in China at 599 Yan (approximately Rs 5,800).


Successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the smartphone has a 5-inch HD display of 720×1280 pixel resolution. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat operating system and is powered by a 1.4GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. As for storage, it offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB ROM along with 128GB microSD card support.

Backed by a 3000mAh battery, the Redmi 5A smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash and a 5MP camera on the front. For connectivity, it includes 4G, VoLTE, 3Gm Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Measuring 140.4 x 70.1 mm, the hybrid dual SIM device comes equipped with an infrared sensor.
